Correct Distance?

I spotted these signs and was so bemused that the next time I passed by, I stopped and photographed them.
Here are the two signs, one on each side of the road, right opposite each other (apologies for the bad focus):

Two signs directly opposite each other with different distances

Can’t see too much eh? I’ll zoom in on each sign for you:

Now here is what I think happened:

Foreman: “Now, Dicky, take this ‘ere measuring stick & go put two signs up, one each side of the road, 200 yards from the junction. Now, MAKE SURE YOU MEASURE IT RIGHT THIS TIME!”

Thicky Dicky [to himself]: “Ah! This is 200 yards, I’ll pop this sign right here!”
[time passes…]
Thicky Dicky [to himself]: “Right, that’s done! I’ll just cross the road…’ey oop! It’s 205 yards now! I know, I’ll just chage the sign a bit.”

Of course, these days, it wouldn’t be Thicky-Dicky doing the work. Oh no, it would be Percy-Pole! But that’s another story!

Update: Here are the signs on Google Maps (handily in the daylight). They are slightly staggered to be fair, but not be 5 yards (15 feet)!
